Susan studied in British Columbia with Doris Crofton and Robin Wood, in Minnesota with Frank Mannheimer, and at the Dartington School in England. A senior Royal Conservatory of Music examiner, she examines at all grades across Canada. Hundreds of teachers in Canada and the USA have attended her pedagogy workshops for the Frederick Harris Music Company and various teaching organizations. She has adjudicated many Western Canadian music festivals, including the Provincial Finals of Alberta and Manitoba. Teachers and students describe her in adjudicating as "fast, friendly, fair and a fabulous musician". She has adjudicated many Western Canadian music festivals, including the Provincial Finals of Alberta and Manitoba. Susan has given solo, duo and duet recitals, performed on radio and television, and accompanied all major instruments plus voice and choir. For her thirteenth appearance recently in the Sidney BC Concert Series, she received a standing ovation for Beethoven’s Concerto #3 in C minor. Recent performances include a recital with cellist Hannah Addario-Berry, the premiere of a new Sylvia Richard work with soprano Deborah Millar, and a duo performance with Jamie Syer and the St. Cecilia Orchestra of Saint-Saens' Carnival of the Animals. Susan teaches all levels of piano at the VCM. Many of her students have careers in music in Canada and abroad.
Dr Michael Redshaw

After graduating from Auckland University in 1970, Michael continued his studies at The Royal College of Music, London, with Kendall Taylor during which time he won the Hopkinson Gold Medal. He was a semi-finalist in the Beethoven Competition in Vienna in 1977. Michael held full-time appointments at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama (Glasgow) and was Assistant Head of Piano at the Birmingham School of Music. For 15 years he was an examiner for The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music. He came to Canada in 1980, firstly to Calgary where he taught at Mt Royal College, and then to Edmonton where he taught at Alberta College and The King’s University College. He was also a sessional instructor at the Universities in Calgary and Edmonton. He has appeared as a soloist and ensemble player in concert and for radio and TV in Canada, Britain, Europe, and New Zealand. He also has given numerous master classes and lectures in these countries. His latest CD is of music by Beethoven, Field, and Schumann. Michael has a special interest in historic pianos and in searching for and editing unpublished earlier piano works. One of these unknown treasures, a piano concero by the young J. N, Hummel is currently being prepared for publication by Artaria later this year. He is a Festival adjudicator and is also an Examiner Emeritus for RCM (Toronto) Examinations.
